Privacy Policy

Keysmith requires wide-ranging permissions from your operating system and browser to function properly, so its important for you to know exactly what data we collect.

The short answer is: Keysmith doesn't collect any data without your permission, and will never collect any sensitive data (like things you've typed or the contents of web pages you've visited).

Why does Keysmith require such wide-ranging permissions?

Keysmith must be able to watch what actions you take in order to record a macro and intelligently identify user interface elements like buttons and lists. This requires Accessibility permissions on the Mac, and a browser extension in Chrome and Firefox. The browser extensions in Chrome and Firefox only communicate directly with the Mac app, and don't send any data over the internet.

Data collection opt-in

There are two kinds of data collection you can opt-in to:

• Crash reporting: if you opt-in, Keysmith securely uploads information about crashes to Sentry. This data is extremely useful for us in fixing bugs and making Keysmith more stable.
  • The contents of your macros are not collected
  • No personally identifying data is collected, with the possible exception of path names (e.g., /Users/winnie)
  • Some information about the hardware and operating system is collected
  • You can read Sentry's privacy policy here
• Analytics: if you opt-in, Keysmith securely uploads analytics information to Amplitude. This data is useful for us in determining which features to work on next based on usage.
  • The contents of your macros are not collected
  • No personally identifying data is collected, with the possible exception of path names (e.g., /Users/winnie)
  • Some information about the hardware and operating system is collected

Payment processor

If you purchase a license, we are required to collect an email address from you via our payment processor, Stripe. We will never sell your email address. You can read Stripe's privacy policy here.

Promises

• We will never sell any Keysmith crash or analytics data
• We will never distribute any Keysmith crash or analytics data for any other purpose than fixing bugs
• We will never sell your email address
